Hey there,
Signs are all around us … street signs, stop signs, and speed limit signs.
Open signs. Closed signs.
We look for signs, study them, and follow them. We rely on them to guide us … without giving them much thought.
But there are other, more subtle signs that we miss.
They are signs from God or His messengers.
God’s signs may provide direction for a decision we are facing.
Or a reminder of His love for us.
God may let us know about a family member who needs help.
Or even a vocation to pursue.
The three wise men saw God’s sign of the star and followed it to Bethlehem to the baby Jesus. No one else recognized that sign from God.
In our busy and loud daily life it’s easy to miss God’s signs.
I didn’t pay much attention to God’s signs until after my mother died. I was preoccupied with raising two small children and working full time. But there’s nothing like the death of a loved one to get your attention.
Over the years I’ve felt the presence of my deceased parents and other relatives, in dreams and while awake.
This week’s issue of Genuflect is all about signs from God, whether they still happen today, how to recognize them, if it’s okay to ask God for a sign, what to try other than ask for a sign, why you shouldn’t be discouraged if you don’t see a sign, and how to know if a loved one is in heaven.
Once you slow down, open your heart to God’s messages, and pay closer attention, you’ll begin to hear the Lord speaking to you. And it’s a beautiful experience.
