Hey there,
We spend a lot of time and energy over the course of our life in preparation.
We go to school.
We learn a trade.
We practice driving a car and learn the rules of the road before we get our driver’s license.
Before our baby is born we “nest.”
But the question is, what preparation are we doing now for our eternal life?
No Time For God
By Skyler Beet
I knelt to pray but not for long.
I had too much to do.
I had to hurry and get to work
For bills would soon be due.
So I knelt and said a hurried prayer
And jumped up off my knees.
My Christian duty was now done.
My soul could rest at ease.
Now all day long I had no time
To spread a word of cheer.
No time to speak of Christ to friends.
They’d laugh at me I’d fear.
“No time. No time. Too much to do.”
That was my constant cry.
No time to give to souls in need.
At last the time to die.
I went before the Lord, I came,
I stood with downcast eyes.
For in his hands God held a book.
It was the book of life.
God looked into his book and said,
“Your name I cannot find.
I once was going to write it down
But never found the time.”
We’ve been told what we need to do to go to heaven. But sometimes life gets in the way. Or pressures from a culture that places value on other things. I can definitely relate.
This week’s issue of Genuflect takes a look at what we can do now and every day to prepare for our afterlife. Benjamin Franklin said, “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”
Let’s make sure we are preparing for the most important thing … our eternal salvation.
