Hi there,
Have you ever watched a child step hesitantly into a swimming pool for the first time? The water seems both inviting and intimidating, full of unknown possibilities. That moment, when the child finally plunges in and emerges splashing and transformed, is a glimpse of what Baptism does in our spiritual lives.
On Sunday we will celebrate the Baptism of the Lord, when Jesus Himself entered the waters of the Jordan. Though He was without sin, He chose to be Baptised by John, humbling Himself to share fully in our human experience. In doing so, He not only began His public ministry but also revealed a profound truth: Baptism is the gateway into a life united with God, a call to humility, obedience, and transformation.
In this issue of Genuflect, we explore the mystery, history, and power of baptism … from its roots in ancient purification rituals to its fulfillment in Christ, and from its public declaration of faith to its deep connection with our salvation. Each article invites you to consider not only Jesus’ baptism but also the waters that call each of us to new life, to step into God’s grace, and to walk in His light.
