You wrestle with what is real … even when you cannot see it.” Then he handed the monk a lamp and added, “The question is not whether the battle exists, but whether you are prepared to see it.”

And while those realities are not insignificant, Catholic teaching has always insisted there is something more … a real spiritual battle, subtle but constant, that touches every human life. Ignoring it doesn’t make it disappear; it only leaves us unprepared.
