Hey there,
Last week on April 8th, North America experienced a solar eclipse, with the moon passing between the Earth and the sun, temporarily blocking our view of the sun.
The path of totality started in Mexico and passed through Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine before ending in the Canadian province Newfoundland and Labrador.
It’s estimated there were 44 million people living in the path of totality, with millions more traveling to get inside the path of totality.
I was blessed to live inside the path of totality, so I only had to step into my back yard. And wow! What an experience!
The 4 minutes of totality were glorious. I couldn’t help but be in awe of God’s creation … and give thanks.
So many things had to align in a specific way for the miracle in the sky. I don’t know how anyone could see a total solar eclipse and believe it was random. To not recognize the perfect plan Our Lord has for us … and His love.
But, here’s the thing. It shouldn’t take a total solar eclipse to reveal the beauty, perfection, and love on display in God’s creation. It’s around us every day. It’s in the trees, and the birds, and the ocean. In raindrops, and dogs, and the smell of fresh cut grass.
Yes, it was incredible to see a big and rare exhibition of God’s handiwork in a total solar eclipse, but it reminded me that I should not take for granted all of God’s creation. So, this week’s issue of Genuflect looks at ways to recognize and rejoice in God’s creation, during a solar eclipse and more importantly, every day. And to give thanks!
