Hey there,
Habemus Papam!
That was the declaration by the senior cardinal deacon, Cardinal Dominique Mamberti, Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, from the balcony of St. Peter’s on May 8th.
Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost was then introduced as Pope Leo XIV, the Bishop of Rome. He’s the 267th pope of the Roman Catholic Church.
Perhaps the most surprising fact is that Pope Leo XIV is the first pope born in the United States! He’s also the first pope from the Order of Saint Augustine.
