About The Saint Gertrude The Great Novena
Saint Gertrude the Great was born on January 6, 1256 in Germany. She was a Benedictine Nun who died in 1301 a virgin. She was hailed as a mystic and a great theologian. She is the only woman Saint with the “The Great” title, which was bestowed on her by Pope Benedict XIV.
Saint Gertrude is the Patroness of the West Indies and she is often invoked for souls in purgatory.
Our Lord told St. Gertrude the Great that the prayer that was prayed by St. Gertrude for all the souls in Purgatory included in this novena would release 1,000 Souls from Purgatory each time it is said. However, this is not confirmed by the Catholic Church.
