Hey there,
Every day I read through the latest Catholic news and am astounded.
Brothers battling in court over whether to pull the plug on their mother according to her DNR, despite her pleas now that she wants to live.
A divorced mother suing to proceed with gender reassignment on her young son despite the father’s insistence that he wants to remain a boy.
The country that forced an abortion on a young mother because she was mentally disabled.
Then there are all the states and countries that are reducing restrictions on abortion and legalizing euthenasia.
And we shouldn’t forget the clergy abuse crisis that never leaves the headlines.
Sadly, these are just a few examples of what’s going on in our world.
It can be frustrating, overwhelming, and downright depressing.
But with the Solemnity of Saint Joseph, husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary approaching on March 19th, now is the perfect time to consider how he just may be the answer we need.
Joseph was a man. A regular ole human being like you and me.
And yet he was chosen by God to care for Mary and Jesus. And he always did as the Lord instructed, without question. Despite how bizarre or life changing the request was.
He’s barely mentioned in the Bible, and yet, he no doubt played a vital role in the life of Jesus.
This week’s issue of Genuflect gives the quiet, humble Saint Joseph the attention he rightly deserves. We cover some of his best titles, why he’s not mentioned more in the Bible, what we can learn from St. Joseph, how to honor him and model after him, and a number of ways to pray to Saint Joseph for his intercession.
Be sure to check out the Novena to Saint Joseph below … begin with days 1 and 2 today and you’ll complete it in time for the Solemnity of Saint Joseph on March 19th.
Saint Joseph is exactly who we need during these trying times to faithfully and quietly serve the Lord.
