Hey there,
You know that feeling when you learn something new and you become obsessed with it for a while? You read everything you can find on it. You watch videos. You talk to other people about it. You want to know everything there is to know about it.
And in learning more … in going deeper below the surface, it comes to have more meaning to you. Well, this is what this week’s issue is all about.
Here we are on Holy Wednesday of Holy Week. Our Lent will soon be over as we follow the Lord’s Passion through to His joyous resurrection on Easter Sunday.
It’s the same Holy Week we experience every year. We follow our Catholic traditions and prayers.
We rejoice with the coming of the Lord. Dark turns to light.
And this is a great thing. But how about we go a little deeper into Holy Week this year?
This issue of Genuflect shines a brighter light on the traditions of Holy Week and how to get more out of it, the various characters involved with Christ’s passion, the meaning of the word Hosanna, the true value of 3pm, a special Good Friday prayer, and some unexpected movies to add to your Holy Week watch list.
I pray it’s an opportunity to learn a little something you may not have known before … to do something a little more special that you’ve never done before. And to experience an even brighter Easter.
Happy Easter blessings to you and yours!

Passion Characters
Throughout Lent we focus on the Passion of Christ in the readings at Mass, in the Stations of the Cross, and especially during Holy Week. Our attention is mostly on Jesus Christ, but there are a lot of other players involved. Venerable Fulton Sheen created a Passion meditation called “Characters of the Passion” that looks at all the people involved … their attitudes, profiles, virtues or vices. Here are 17 of those characters to add to your Passion meditation.

Hosanna!
On Palm Sunday we cried “Hosanna!” as Jesus entered the city. It’s a word uttered every Sunday at Mass when we say “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” We should all understand the 3 meanings of this word … especially now as we prepare for His resurrection this Easter Sunday.
