Hey there,
Last week I had a conversation with a Lutheran who was telling me the main differences between their beliefs and Catholicism. One that he mentioned is that they don’t worship Mary.
So, naturally I explained that we Catholics don’t worship Mary either … we venerate her. And we pray to her to intercede on our behalf.
Mary does play an important role in Catholicism. After all, there would be no Jesus without Mary.
May is the month the Catholic Church dedicates to the Virgin Mother of Our Lord.
But … we also celebrate her this month.
The month of August is dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
On the 15th we’ll celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (reminder: this is a Holy Day of Obligation).
And on August 22nd we’ll celebrate the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
With all this emphasis on Mary, it was clear this week’s issue of Genuflect should pay tribute to Our Holy Mother. We’ve covered Mary quite a bit in the past. So this week’s resources are chock full of Marian information from her Immaculate Heart and her Assumption, to her Queenship … and even asking for her intercession.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us!

The Assumption of The Blessed Virgin Mary
In 2024 the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on August 15th IS a Holy Day of Obligation. Here’s a look back to 2022 when Genuflect focused on the history of the doctrine, its importance, the relevance of the feast day, how you can celebrate, and more.
